Cengiz Bergun
Course Director
Having a passion for diving since 1993.
Cengiz is the Director of North Cyprus British Scuba Centre. After re-locating to the TRNC in 2001, he opened the dive centre to create a friendly school catering for beginners to advanced divers and guarantees a warm welcome to everyone.
He is the first and only PADI Course Director in North Cyprus.
Johan Van Werven
Master Instructor
Johan from Leiden, The Netherlands lives for several months in North Cyprus during the summer season. He has 35 years of Diving experience and has been a PADI professional for over 25 years.
He has dived all over the world. He has been at North Cyprus British Scuba for several years now where he loves to teach and train both new and experienced divers. In 2021 he achieved his Master Instructor status, the highest instructor level which is needed before it is possible to become a PADI Course Director.
His wife and 3 children are also experienced divers.
Andy Franks
IDC Instructor
Diving since 2000 with over a 1,000 logged dives. Andy was a BSAC sport diver before converting over to PADI. Has been a regular at North Cyprus British Scuba now for several years and is a very competent Instructor.
Can Bekcan
IDC Instructor
Can is from Turkey and has been diving since 2003. He is a research assistant at a University here in North Cyprus, specialising in
photography, videography, new media and journalism.
He has worked at different diving schools and has dived many locations in North Cyprus.
Can has been a member of the NCBS centre since 2019 and is a IDC Staff Instructor.
Tijn Van Werven
Open Water Scuba Instructor
Tijn also from the Netherlands started diving aged 9 and became a PADI Open Water diver on his 12th Birthday. He grew up around the North Cyprus British Scuba centre and has been a great help over the years.
He has also been lucky enough to have dived all over the world accompanying his father Johan, gaining vast knowledge and experience.
In 2021 only a few months after his 18th Birthday he became PADI Open Water Instructor, which made him one of the youngest PADI Instructors in the world. In the coming years he hopes to grow as an Instructor and to be able to train many new divers, helping them to discover the beauty of the underwater world.
Sam
Open Water Scuba Instructor
Sam has gained quite a good experience during his diving adventures since 2006 which includes diving in Red Sea and Far East as well as many other countries.
With the confidence of his wide experience which he acquired in his adventures, he has an almost instant effect on the beginners which lets him make them fall in love with diving by projecting calmness in water.
Kav
Trainee Junior Instructor
A very young experienced diver. Always on hand to help with loading the boat, washing the gear to assisting the instructors in and outside the water with students. A great asset to the Dive club.
Martin Byas
Divemaster / Webmaster
Martin AKA 'The Master' one of our more mature members whose calm and unflappable exterior create a tranquil and calming influence for new divers.
When not diving Martin creates and updates websites for local businesses.
